Make It Stick: How to Apply Your Mountain Grit Badge

Here’s how you give your Mountain Grit badge a fighting chance to stay put.

(If you haven't grabbed your badges yet, request them here)

Most technical outerwear has a water-repellent coating (DWR) that’s designed to shed everything—including glue. To make sure your badge holds on for the ride, you’ve got to prep the spot properly.

Here's the drill:

  1. Pick the Spot: Decide where the badge is going. Usually, right over that old logo would be a solid choice.

  2. The Cleanse: Put a small drop of strong dish soap (the kind that really cuts through grease) right on the fabric.

  3. Give it a Scrub: Use a clean, damp cloth or an old toothbrush to gently work the soap into the weave. You’re not trying to ruin the jacket, just breaking down the coating in that one specific spot.

  4. Rinse it Well: This is the most important part. Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water. Any leftover soap will act like a lubricant, and that badge will slide right off.

  5. Patience is a Virtue: Let the garment air dry completely. We’re talking bone dry. No shortcuts, no hair dryers, just let it sit.

  6. Stick it On: Once it’s 100% dry, peel the backing and press the badge on firmly. Use some muscle and make sure those edges are sealed down tight.
